One Week in the Maldives at Reethi Faru Resort

In this post you can find out how to get to Reethi Faru Resort in the Maldives, when to go, and what to do. Located on the private island of Filaidhoo in the Raa Atoll, Reethi Faru Resort truly lives up to its name, which translates to “beautiful reef.” From sustainable practices to unforgettable experiences, Reethi Faru sets itself apart by catering for both luxury travelers and environmental enthusiasts.

I was lucky enough to spend a week here, fully immersing myself in its serene beauty and doing lots of beautiful activities. The Maldives aren’t necessarily an eco-friendly destination. However, with the resort’s commitment to sustainability – from solar panels to organic gardens – you can experience a holiday in paradise while supporting efforts to preserve this fragile ecosystem.

The best time to visit Reethi Faru Resort in the Maldives

While the Maldives is beautiful year-round, the dry season (November to April) offers the best weather. During the wet season you might experience a lot of rain, however, there might be sunny days too and prices are significantly cheaper. I went in October and even though there was some rain, we had enough sunny days.

How to get to Reethi Faru Resort

Reethi Faru is accessible via a scenic 45-minute seaplane journey from Malé International Airport. The resort’s team handles all transfers seamlessly, ensuring a stress-free arrival. You can also opt for a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport and a speedboat transfer from there which takes about 1.5 hours in total.

Accomodation at Reethi Faru Resort

Reethi Faru Resort offers a great range of accommodation styles for every type of traveler.

The Garden Villas, nestled amid lush tropical foliage and featuring private decks and open-air rain showers are the most affordable option. They are great if you don’t need a pool or direct beach access. I stayed in one of them and loved it. I didn’t mind the two minute walk to the beach and it was very quiet.

Their Beach Villas are just steps from the sand with their own lounge areas and sea views. This is great for everyone enjoying to relax at the beach. You also get your private beach chairs.

Water enthusiasts can opt for over‑water Water Villas, perched on stilts above the lagoon with direct ocean access from the deck. They also offer special sunset view over-water villas.

For those seeking extra luxury, the resort also provides Deluxe Beach Pool Villas, with a private plunge pool overlooking the beach.

All options are also available as multi-bedroom options: Two-Bedroom Garden Villas, beachfront Beach Suites, or the ultra‑luxurious Two-Bedroom Water Villa Suites with spa tubs – all ideal for families or groups. I was able to visit all accommodation options and they were all stunning. Each villa includes air-conditioning, outdoor showers, a minibar, tea/coffee facilities, and complimentary daily refills of purified drinking water from the on-site water plant.

Food at Reethi Faru Resort Maldives

Dining at Reethi Faru is a true culinary journey. The resort offers a variety of restaurants and bars. Nothing I ate during my week in the Maldives at Reethi Faru Resort disappointed. The main restaurant called Vakaru has a changing theme every night and they offer international buffets wit a great selection of dishes.

At Reethi Grill you can enjoy a beautiful seafood dinner under the stars, or enjoy a light meal for lunch. The restaurant is right at the beach and offers a serene atmosphere. We tried some starters, the pizza amd a seafood platter which were all very tasty.

Indulge in fine dining at the romantic Huvandhu Garden. This is a restaurant at Reethi Faru Resort designed specifically for couples. You can enjoy your dinner in private cabanas and choose from multi-course menus.

Dhiyavaru Restaurant is a 24-hour restaurant in the lagoon offering everything from snacks to dinner dishes. We spent a beautiful evening at the restaurant and loved the food and atmosphere.

Reethi Faru Resort also offers bars like Haruge and Veyo Bar with tropical cocktails and snacks. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are also available, and the attentive staff are happy to cater to dietary needs. What is special about food at Reethi Faru Resort is that they use fresh, locally grown ingredients.

What to do in a week in the Maldives at Reethi Faru Resort

I was never really interested in visiting the Maldives because I thought there was nothing to do. The beautiful pictures of white sandy beaches made me go regardless and the island proved me wrong. There was not enough time to do everything they offer. Of course, there are countless activities related to the ocean. You can find a wide array of activities on land and sea. There is snorkelling and diving with experiences guides at the dive center.

If you are in for adrenaline, water sports like kayaking, windsurfing, SUP, jet skiing, catamaran sailing and more are available. Cultural excursions and local island visits also offer a deeper look into Maldivian life. If you want to explore marine life and the surrounding islands you can choose excursions to deserted sandbanks, watching dolphins, sunset cruises or fishing, manta snorkeling and many more.

During our stay, we joined several unforgettable excursions that made our trip truly special. The Dolphin Safari took us out into the open waters, where we watched pods of dolphins leaping and playing alongside the boat. Moreover, we took the trip to a sandbank where we could take amazing photos. Another highlight was the manta snorkeling. Unfortunately we didn’t see mantas but the guides made sure to show us other species, such as sea turtles. It was beautiful and I even saw a reef shark. The Maldives are a great place to explore the reef. Whilst the corals aren’t as healthy at most places the marine life is the best I’ve ever seen. Here you can check out the different options.

On land, you can stay active with tennis, badminton, and a modern gym, or take a yoga class at the gym. For relaxation, you can enjoy a massage or a wellness ritual at the Coconut Spa with a soothing massage or wellness ritual.

Sustainability at Reethi Faru Resort

Sustainability is at the heart of Reethi Faru’s operations. The resort runs its own solar power systems and water bottling plant, which provides daily refills of purified drinking water in reusable glass bottles, significantly reducing plastic waste. Eco-conscious practices extend to waste management and reef conservation. Organic produce is grown on-site, and natural materials are used in villa construction and decor. Guests are encouraged to participate in conservation efforts through educational tours and reef-safe practices.

5 things to consider when travelling to the Maldiv 5 things to consider when travelling to the Maldives
1️⃣ You may think that travelling to the Maldives is insanely expensive, however there are lots of local islands that you can visit on a budget. Accommodation and tours are way cheaper and you can even book day trips to resorts if you want to experience the luxury of the Maldives. Thulusdhoo is a great option and just a 30 minute boat ride from the airport.
2️⃣ You always need a transfer by domestic flight/speed boat/seaplane to get to the islands/resorts. The travel time varies depending on how far the resort is located from Male. A speedboat is usually cheaper than the sea plane but takes a bit longer and is more of a hustle.
3️⃣ There is a lot to do in the Maldives. When I first thought about travelling to the Maldives I was scared I‘d be bored being on a tiny island. However, there were so many things to do, I couldn‘t fit them all in! At @reethifaru resort where I stayed there are tons of activities like a dolphin cruise and sand bank trip with @reethifaruwatersports. There are lots of snorkeling trips, boat trips, watersports activities. There‘s diving, free house reef snorkeling every day, events and many more. When planning your trip to the Maldives make sure to plan enough time for some activities as well as relaxation.
4️⃣ The underwater life is amazing! I honestly wasn‘t into snorkelling before my trip to the Maldives but that was probably because I haven‘t seen a healthy coral reef before. You can swim with sharks, stingrays, turtles, mantas and so many more, no matter if you‘re doing trips from local islands or resorts. The house reef at @reethifaru was amazing! You can see so many different fish, it‘s incredible 😍
5️⃣ As you can imagine, the Maldives are not an eco-friendly destination, however, you can reduce your footprint when travelling to a sustainable resort. @reethifaru is one of them and has some great initiatives and conservation programs 😍
